About Sphinx International (SPX)

Sphinx International opened in January 2020 as Greater Cairo's second gateway, built on the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road to serve the west of Giza — the Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum and 6th of October City. The single terminal is small (capacity ~900 passengers an hour) and that is its charm: immigration and security are far quicker than at Cairo International, and if your hotel is on the Giza side you skip crossing the whole city's traffic.
Don't overestimate the name, though: by road it is still about 35–40 km to the Pyramids (45–60 minutes) and 45+ km to downtown Cairo. Traffic is dominated by low-cost carriers — Flynas, Air Arabia, flydubai and Jazeera to the Gulf and Saudi cities, easyJet, Wizz Air and Pegasus on European leisure routes, plus Air Cairo and EgyptAir hops to the Red Sea resorts. Most full-service long-haul airlines still use Cairo International (CAI).
There is no rail or scheduled public bus — plan a road transfer. Uber and Careem work at SPX (roughly EGP 200–250 to the Giza hotel zone); street taxis quote wildly, so agree a price before getting in and carry Egyptian pounds in cash. Pre-booked private transfers and hotel pickups are the most comfortable option for downtown. The terminal itself is thin on food and shops — land with your onward transport already arranged.
