Good to know

  • Nationals of the ~40 Visa Waiver Program countries can travel for tourism or business up to 90 days with an approved ESTA (USD 40) instead of a visa.
  • Travellers not eligible for the VWP need a visa, typically a B-2 tourist / B-1-B-2 visa; the application (MRV) fee is USD 185.
  • A new USD 250 'Visa Integrity Fee' has been legislated for most nonimmigrant visa holders (VWP/ESTA travellers are exempt). As of mid-2026 it is not yet being collected because no payment mechanism is in place.
  • Apply for ESTA only via the official CBP site (esta.cbp.dhs.gov); VWP travellers must hold an e-passport and meet program conditions.

How to get here

How to get to United States

Every way into United States by air — each city's main airport plus the budget-carrier, secondary and cross-border options, with how long the transfer takes.

Getting to Albuquerque

Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ)

The Sunport sits barely 6 km from downtown, so the drive in is a quarter of an hour. Balloon Fiesta Park is on the far north side — allow 25–30 minutes, and much longer on morning-session days, when traffic to the launch field backs up before dawn.

~12 min to AlbuquerqueABQ airport

Santa Fe (SAF)

instead of Albuquerque (ABQ)

A small airport with a handful of daily connections, worth checking when ABQ fares spike during Balloon Fiesta week — it's about an hour's drive down I-25, and pairs well with a night in Santa Fe.

Power & plugs

United States runs on 120V with plug types A, B. Most chargers work with a simple plug adapter.

Type A
Two flat parallel pins
Type B
Two flat pins + ground

Good news — these socket types are mutually compatible, so a single Type A adapter covers all of United States.
