Good to know
- Citizens of eTA-eligible countries travelling to Canada BY AIR need an eTA (not a visitor visa); most approvals arrive within minutes but can take several days if extra documents are requested. Travelling by land or sea generally does not require an eTA, just a valid passport.
- The eTA costs CAN$7 and is valid for up to 5 years or until the traveller's passport expires, whichever comes first; a new passport requires a new eTA. An eTA does not permit work or study in Canada.
- US citizens, US lawful permanent residents (with valid passport and green card), Canadian permanent residents, and dual Canadian citizens (travelling on a Canadian passport) are exempt from the eTA.
- Nationals of visa-required countries generally need a visitor visa instead of an eTA, though some visa-required nationalities may qualify for an eTA specifically for air travel — check eligibility for a specific passport on the official portal.

Power & plugs
Canada runs on 120V with plug types A, B. Most chargers work with a simple plug adapter.
Good news — these socket types are mutually compatible, so a single Type A adapter covers all of Canada.
