How to get to Munich

Munich's own airport and the one almost every long-haul route uses. S-Bahn S1/S8 run into the city centre in about 45 minutes, every 10 minutes, all day — during Oktoberfest they run through the night too.

You don't have to fly into pricey Munich — budget carriers (Ryanair, Wizz Air) land at Memmingen, about a 75-minute drive or a direct flixbus/shuttle from the Bavarian capital.

Heading to northern Bavaria or on a budget for Munich? Nuremberg is a fast, frequent ICE train hop (about an hour) and often has cheaper fares into the region.

Cross the border for a cheaper fare: Salzburg airport (Austria) is about 1h30 from Munich on a direct, roughly hourly Railjet/EC train — handy for the seasonal and ski-charter flights that skip pricey MUC.

Another cross-border option: Innsbruck (Austria) — a favourite for easyJet and winter ski charters — connects to Munich by direct EC train in about 2 hours through the Alps, or roughly 1h45 by car.
