About Pensacola International (PNS)

Pensacola International is the gateway to Florida's western Panhandle — the beaches of Pensacola Beach, Perdido Key and, across the state line, Gulf Shores. It sits about three miles northeast of downtown Pensacola, so the drive into town takes roughly ten minutes and even the beach is well under an hour. The airport is owned and run by the City of Pensacola as a self-funding department, and despite the "International" in its name it works like a busy regional airport: a single terminal with 12 gates (1–10 upstairs, 11–12 at ground level) served by American, Delta, Southwest, United, Frontier, Spirit and Breeze, mostly to US hubs and leisure markets.

It is small enough to be easy — short walks, one security checkpoint, rental cars on the lower level — but it is no longer sleepy: 2024 set an all-time record of just over 3 million passengers, and a $152 million expansion adding a five-gate concourse, a doubled security checkpoint and more parking broke ground in October 2025, with construction running to roughly 2028. Expect queues at the single checkpoint during summer and holiday peaks, and arrive earlier than the airport's size suggests.

Two local quirks: the National Naval Aviation Museum at NAS Pensacola, home base of the Blue Angels, is a 20-minute drive away and worth a long layover; and every February the airport rebrands itself "Pensacola Intergalactic Airport" for the Pensacon convention.

Good to know

  • Free Wi-Fi covers the whole single terminal — departures upstairs, baggage claim and rental cars downstairs — with no time limit.
  • Connect, open a browser and accept the terms on the welcome page; no account, code or payment is needed.
  • The airport doesn't publish the exact network name, so verify it on-site (it is usually shown as a PNS/airport-branded free network) and avoid lookalike hotspots.
  • Confirm the login portal shows the airport's own branding before entering any details, and use a VPN for anything sensitive.
  • There are no airline lounges at PNS, so plan on the public network; power outlets and charging stations are spread through the gate areas.

This airport uses a WiFi sign-in page

You will pass through a captive portal — a web page — before you get online. It is worth treating as untrusted: a legitimate one asks you to accept terms, enter an email or type an SMS code. It never asks you to install an update or run a command.

Shared network · security

Shared airport WiFi. A VPN encrypts your traffic once you're on it.

On a shared network, anyone nearby can see which sites you open. A VPN encrypts your traffic after you're connected, and lets you reach home banking and apps that block foreign IPs. It does not cover the sign-in page itself, or anything you're persuaded to install.
