Good to know
- Most visitors need a visa. It can be obtained in advance online via the official e-Visa portal (visa2egypt.gov.eg) or on arrival at major airports. Single entry allows a stay of up to 30 days; the passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond arrival.
- Since 1 August 2026 Cairo International Airport (CAI) also issues the visa on arrival digitally: a QR code instead of the paper sticker, via the 'Visa On Arrival' app, self-service kiosks in the arrivals hall, or visaonarrival.gov.eg. The QR code is single-use and valid 7 days from issue.
- The digital route is optional during the pilot — paper stickers are still sold at Cairo, and Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada are not on the system yet. Who is eligible for a visa on arrival has not changed; only how it is issued and checked.
- Fees: e-Visa USD 30 single-entry / USD 65 multiple-entry; paper visa-on-arrival sticker USD 30; digital QR USD 36 (USD 30 visa + USD 6 service). The digital channel takes Visa or Mastercard only and payments are non-refundable, including if entry is refused.
- Since 29 July 2026 a departure fee of EGP 100 applies to everyone leaving Egypt, Egyptian or foreign (Law 148/2026 amending Law 147/1984). Only drivers and crew on cross-border passenger and freight routes are exempt.
- Some nationalities are visa-exempt or have special arrangements (e.g. Sinai-only entries). Use only the official gov.eg portals; lookalike commercial sites add inflated fees.
As a citizen of Russia you can travel to Egypt, but you'll need an entry document first — a visa on arrival, e-Visa or travel authorization depending on the route. Arrange it before you book non-refundable travel.
