- Nationals of EAC member states, most SADC countries (except Comoros) and most Commonwealth countries (except the UK, Canada, Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand) are visa-exempt.
- 108+ other nationalities (including the USA, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Australia and Canada) can get a visa on arrival or apply for the e-Visa in advance.
- A smaller 'referral' list (e.g. Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, Yemen and stateless/refugee travellers) must apply online only, with government referral approval required roughly 2 months in advance — no visa on arrival.
