- Nicaragua's entry-visa rules are set by the Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería (DGME), under the Ministerio del Interior. Foreign nationals are assigned to lettered migratory visa categories; category 'A' is Libre Visado (visa-free) and category 'C' is Visa Consultada (a consulted visa requiring prior authorization).
- Disposición No. 002-2026 (issued 13 Feb 2026, in force from 16 Feb 2026) redefined these lists. It sets out the nationalities under Libre Visado (no visa required) and lists 128 nationalities that require Visa Consultada, Categoría Migratoria 'C', to enter Nicaragua.
- Visa Consultada (Categoría 'C') means the traveller must apply through a Nicaraguan consulate, which forwards the request to Migración in Managua for authorization before the visa is issued. There is no visa-on-arrival for this category and approval/processing time is not guaranteed.
- Haitian nationals (Haití) are listed under Visa Consultada, Categoría 'C' (item 47 of the Disposición 002-2026 list), so a Haitian-passport holder must obtain a consulted visa in advance before travelling to Nicaragua.
