A visa is only part of the picture. Most destinations still ask for one or more of the things below — even when no visa is required. Here's what applies to this trip.

    You'll need to apply for a visa before you travel.

    Cabo Verde withdrew visa-on-arrival on 1 January 2026 for the 91 nationalities named in the government's official annex. If yours is one of them, the visa must be issued by a Cabo Verde embassy or consulate before you board. Turning up at Praia or Sal without one means refused entry — and airlines check at the gate, so in practice it means denied boarding. This applies to transit and stopovers too.

    You may be exempt even though your nationality is listed. The annex does not apply to holders of a valid residence permit issued by:

    • an EU member state, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the United Kingdom, San Marino, Switzerland or the Vatican;
    • Brazil, Canada or the United States.

    The permit must guarantee its holder's unconditional readmission. A valid Cabo Verde foreigner's residence permit (TRE) also exempts you, as does being aircrew of a Chicago Convention state. So a Venezuelan living in Spain, a Colombian with a US green card or a Peruvian resident in Canada does not need to apply for this visa. Carry the permit itself — the exemption is checked against the document, not your passport. If your airline's system still flags you, the annex's Scope clause 3(b) is the paragraph to point at.

    Everyone still does EASE and the security tax. The exemption above is from the visa only. Every visitor — visa-exempt nationals and residence-permit holders alike — must still complete the online EASE pre-registration and pay the Airport Security Tax (TSA) of 3,400 CVE (about EUR 31), ideally at least 5 days before travelling.

  • The TSA for international flights is 3,400 CVE (~EUR 31). Pre-registration should be done up to 5 days before travel and is valid for 1 year.
  • Since 1 January 2026, visa-on-arrival is withdrawn for the 91 nationalities on the government's official list (announced as 96, corrected to 91 in January 2026 — Cameroon, India, Rwanda, Taiwan and Türkiye were removed). It includes Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Venezuela: they must obtain a visa from a Cabo Verde embassy or consulate BEFORE boarding.
  • Important exception: if your nationality is on that list but you hold a valid residence permit from an EU member state, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the UK, San Marino, Switzerland or the Vatican, or from Brazil, Canada or the USA (guaranteeing unconditional readmission), or a valid Cabo Verde residence permit (TRE), that visa is NOT required. Aircrew are also exempt. EASE pre-registration and the TSA still apply.
  • Exempt from the TSA and pre-registration: Cabo Verdean nationals, foreign residents, children under two, transit passengers and official-mission passengers.

Cape Verde visa for Algerian citizens: how to apply

Since 1 January 2026, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) has ended visa-on-arrival for nationals of about 96 countries, including Algeria. Algerian passport holders must now obtain an entry visa in advance, before boarding — and this applies to transit and airport stopovers too. Without a prior visa, entry, transit or stopover may be refused. In addition to the visa, online EASE pre-registration and payment of the Airport Security Tax (TSA) remain mandatory.

Two separate steps, not to be confused:

  • The entry visa — obtained from a Cabo Verde embassy/consulate before you travel.
  • EASE pre-registration + TSA — online, mandatory for almost every traveller (see Step 4).

Step 1 — Where to apply

Cabo Verde has no diplomatic mission in Algeria. Algerian applicants therefore apply to the Cabo Verde embassy or consulate responsible for Algeria — in practice most often the Embassy in Dakar (Senegal) or the mission in Paris (France). Before applying, confirm with the mission that it is accredited to handle applications from residents in Algeria, along with its procedure (appointment, documents, fees). The official, up-to-date list of consular posts is on the Cabo Verde consular network.

You can apply either online through the official consular portal (apply online) or in person by appointment at the competent consular post.

Step 2 — Visa type

Depending on the purpose of travel, Cabo Verde issues, among others:

  • Tourism — leisure and cruises. Must be used within 60 days of issue; 90-day stay, extendable.
  • Transit — to reach another country with a stop in Cabo Verde. 4 days, extendable once.
  • Temporary — cultural travel, business mission, short professional activity, medical treatment, family visit.
  • Official, diplomatic or courtesy — official travel.
  • Residence — to settle in Cabo Verde (applied for in Cabo Verde; the file may be instructed at an embassy or consulate).

Step 3 — Documents

The core requirement is a passport valid for at least 6 months at the time of stay. The mission typically also asks for an application form, a passport photo, a return ticket, proof of accommodation and sufficient means of subsistence. Because the exact list is set by the consular post, confirm it with the mission before applying.

Step 4 — EASE pre-registration and TSA (mandatory)

Even with a visa, every traveller must pre-register online at www.ease.gov.cv — at the latest 5 days before travel — and pay the Airport Security Tax (TSA):

  • International flights: 3,400 CVE (≈ €31).
  • Pre-registration is valid for 1 year; if the trip shifts within that year, you present the same proof on arrival.

Exempt from pre-registration: Cabo Verdean nationals and foreign residents of Cabo Verde. Exempt from the TSA: Cabo Verdean passport holders; Cabo Verdeans and their spouses/descendants (on proof); children under two; passengers on official state missions; passengers on forced or technical returns; and passengers in transit.

Use only the official ease.gov.cv portal — third-party "visa" websites charge extra and are not the official channel.

FAQ

Does a transit or stopover in Cabo Verde need a visa? Yes. Since 1 January 2026 the prior-visa requirement also covers transit and airport stopovers for the affected nationalities, including Algeria.

Who is exempt from EASE / the TSA? Cabo Verdean nationals and foreign residents of Cabo Verde are exempt from pre-registration; the TSA exemptions are listed in Step 4.

Is a vaccine required? No vaccine is required to enter Cabo Verde. Every traveller, including babies, needs their own passport.
