- Vatican City has no airport and no border control of its own: it is entered on foot from Rome, so entry requirements are those of Italy and the Schengen Area, not a separate Vatican regime.
- Visa-exempt travellers may enter the Schengen Area (and therefore reach the Vatican) for up to 90 days in any 180-day period; nationals who require a visa need an Italian/Schengen short-stay (type C) visa, applied for via the Italian MFA visa portal (vistoperitalia.esteri.it).
- The passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from the Schengen Area and issued within the previous 10 years.
- There is no separate Vatican visa and no Vatican visa fee.
