Smart packing plans for train & no-fly travel — coming soon.

Not flying? Trains, road trips, buses and ferries don't come with a cabin-bag cage — so you can pack for comfort, not for the overhead bin. We're building packing plans tuned for the journey instead of the airline.

No airline weight limits

Trains and cars don't weigh your bag at the gate. Plans that use the space you actually have, without the cabin cap.

Packed for the journey

Layers within reach, a day bag you can open at your seat, and the heavier things you'd never risk in carry-on.

One compressed kit

The same pack-it-once method, sized for station platforms and boot space instead of overhead bins.

Travelling without flying

Packing for train and no-fly travel, done right

Travelling by train, car, bus or ferry changes everything about how you pack. There's no cabin-bag gauge and no gate weigh-in, so the airline rules that shape flight packing simply don't apply — you can bring the heavier boots, the extra layers and the full-size toiletries you'd never squeeze into carry-on. What matters instead is the journey itself: a day bag you can reach at your seat, layers for a platform at dawn, and a main bag you can lift onto a rack or into a boot on your own.

That freedom is easy to waste by overpacking, which is where compression still helps. A well-compressed kit keeps a multi-day overland trip to one manageable bag, so changing trains or loading a car stays effortless. Our coming no-fly section will tune the plan to how you're travelling — train, road, bus or ferry — and to your route and dates; until then, the packing calculator already builds a weighed list, and with no airline selected it packs without a cabin limit.

Train & no-fly travel — quick answers

Most rail operators are far more generous than airlines — many set no strict weight limit at all, just a common-sense size you can lift onto the luggage rack yourself. A few high-speed and international services cap the number or size of bags, so check your operator, but you'll almost never face an airline-style weigh-in or cabin-bag cage.
