Travel documents checklist
The paperwork every international trip needs — from a valid passport and the right visa to insurance, copies and health documents. Work through the list, then check the exact visa requirements for your route.
Documents to sort before you travel
- Passport (valid 6+ months)
Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates, with a blank page or two.
- Visa or entry authorisation
Check whether you need a visa, an eTA/ETIAS-style authorisation, or nothing at all for your passport and destination.
- Travel insurance
Carry your policy number and the insurer's emergency line; some countries require proof of medical cover on entry.
- Tickets & bookings
Flight confirmations, accommodation bookings and any onward or return ticket you may be asked to show.
- Copies & digital backups
Keep a photo and a printed copy of your passport, visa and insurance, stored separately from the originals.
- Driving permit
If you'll drive, check whether you need an International Driving Permit alongside your national licence.
- Health documents
Any required vaccination certificates (e.g. yellow fever) and a note of the prescriptions you're carrying.
- Money & cards
Tell your bank you're travelling, carry a backup card and some local cash for arrival.
