Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta 2026
The world's largest gathering of hot-air balloons — 500+ balloons lift off from Balloon Fiesta Park over nine days, with this edition also marking the 100th anniversary of Route 66. Dawn Patrol launches around 6am and the Mass Ascension follows near sunrise, making this one of the site's biggest draws for English-speaking visitors.
Site officielGetting to the field before dawn for Mass Ascension is the whole point of the trip - and the classic packing trap. Balloon Fiesta Park sits in New Mexico's high desert, so pre-dawn temperatures can flirt with freezing while the same afternoon climbs into the low 20s°C. Pack layers you can peel off through the day rather than one 'right' outfit.
Ce à quoi s'attendre d'habitude
Ce sont des valeurs saisonnières typiques pour ces dates, pas une prévision en direct — la prévision pour les dates exactes apparaît à l'approche de l'événement.
Arrive for Dawn Patrol (around 6am) dressed for near-freezing high-desert cold - a hat, gloves and a jacket you can stuff in a bag once the sun is up. By early afternoon it's shirt-sleeves warm, and it cools off again fast once the sun drops.

Ce que le lieu laisse entrer
Les règles pratiques, faciles à manquer, qui décident de ce que vous pouvez vraiment emporter.
Layer for a 20°C+ swing
Gates for the morning sessions open around 4:30am and Dawn Patrol lifts off near 6am, when it's often near freezing on the field. By the time Mass Ascension wraps a couple of hours later the sun is well up - bring a packable jacket, hat and gloves you can shed and carry rather than dressing for one temperature.
Bag checks and metal detectors at every gate
All bags are searched and every visitor passes through a metal detector before entering the field. Glass, weapons, alcohol, drones and fireworks are banned outright. Pull any bulky jacket out of your bag before you reach the line - it speeds up screening considerably during the early-morning rush.
2026 doubles as the Route 66 centennial
This edition falls in the year Route 66 turns 100, and Balloon Fiesta has historically tied programming to the Mother Road (including a Route 66 parade in the past). Expect extra crowds and check the official schedule for any centennial-specific special shapes or events before you plan your days.

Aéroports pour Albuquerque
Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ)
The Sunport sits barely 6 km from downtown, so the drive in is a quarter of an hour. Balloon Fiesta Park is on the far north side — allow 25–30 minutes, and much longer on morning-session days, when traffic to the launch field backs up before dawn.
Santa Fe (SAF)
A small airport with a handful of daily connections, worth checking when ABQ fares spike during Balloon Fiesta week — it's about an hour's drive down I-25, and pairs well with a night in Santa Fe.
