Miami International Airport: A Traveler's Quick Guide

Cet article n'est pas encore disponible dans ton langue, il est donc affiché en anglais. Nous travaillons à le traduire prochainement.

MIA is one of the busiest international gateways in the US and a major hub for American Airlines and LATAM, spread across three terminal buildings and six concourses — D (North, American Airlines), E, F and G (Central), and H and J (South, largely Delta and long-haul international carriers). The catch: only one secure connection links Concourse D to E, so moving between some concourses can mean exiting security and going back through it. Wear comfortable shoes — this is a genuinely large, sprawling airport, and the moving walkways and Concourse D Skytrain aren't always reliable.

Immigration and customs

International arrivals go through US Customs and Border Protection, and MIA's high volume of connecting international traffic means immigration and re-check lines can be long, particularly around midday and evening bank arrivals. Global Entry and the Mobile Passport Control app can meaningfully cut your wait if you're eligible. If you're connecting onward internationally, budget generously — connections under two hours are genuinely risky here given the need to clear immigration, collect and recheck bags, then clear security again.

Getting into the city

The free MIA Mover train links the terminals to the Miami Intermodal Center, where you can pick up Metrorail's Orange Line, Tri-Rail, rental cars, and taxi/rideshare. Metrorail is the cheapest way downtown — about 25 minutes to Downtown/Government Center for roughly $2.25 — and connects onward to MiamiCentral, the Brightline train hub, if you're continuing to Fort Lauderdale or West Palm Beach. Taxis and rideshare are faster door-to-door but pricier and traffic-dependent: expect 20–30 minutes and $25–40 to South Beach, more at rush hour. If a cruise is next on your itinerary, PortMiami is a straightforward 15–20 minute taxi ride from the terminals.

Practical tips

South Florida's afternoon thunderstorms (roughly June through September) can cause real delays, so build slack into tight connections during that stretch. Free MIA-WiFi is available airport-wide but is ad-supported unless you pay for the faster tier — fine for checking a gate number, less fine for a video call. And because MIA's concourses are spread wide, check your departure gate as soon as it's posted so you're not sprinting a half-mile with the walkways down.

Noms de réseau officiels

  • MIA-WiFiCovers all terminals — gates, baggage claim, and the airport hotel

Connecte-toi uniquement à ces noms de réseau exacts — les faux hotspots dans les aéroports sont une arnaque de phishing courante.

Bon à savoir

  • Free tier is ad-supported and unlimited in time, but you'll see periodic ads/interruptions unless you upgrade.
  • Paid uninterrupted access costs $4.95 (standard) or $7.95 (premium) for a faster, ad-free session — pay through the Boingo portal that appears when you connect.
  • Connect to "MIA-WiFi" and a browser should auto-launch the sign-in page; if it doesn't, open any webpage manually to trigger it.
  • Fine for checking flight status, boarding passes and email; if you need reliable speed for video calls or large uploads, the paid tier or a personal hotspot is more dependable.
  • Boingo support line (800-880-4117) can help if the portal doesn't load.
