Kuala Lumpur International Airport: A Traveler's Guide

Cet article n'est pas encore disponible dans ton langue, il est donc affiché en anglais. Nous travaillons à le traduire prochainement.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) is actually two separate terminal complexes about 20 minutes apart by shuttle: KLIA (Terminal 1), used by Malaysia Airlines and most full-service foreign carriers, and klia2 (Terminal 2), the dedicated low-cost hub for AirAsia and other budget airlines. They are not walkable to each other — check which terminal your flight uses before you book onward transport, since a wrong guess can cost you 20–30 minutes and a shuttle fare.

Immigration and security

Malaysia's immigration process is generally quick, and most nationalities can use the autogate e-passport lanes on arrival if they've registered (or MyIMMS/eNTRI for visa-exempt visitors); Malaysia has broad visa-free access for tourists from many countries, typically for 30 or 90 days depending on nationality. Security at both terminals is standard and rarely a bottleneck outside peak departure banks. If you're transiting internationally within the same terminal, 60–90 minutes is comfortable; add extra time for a KLIA–klia2 terminal change.

Getting into the city

The fastest option is the KLIA Ekspres, a nonstop train to KL Sentral in the city center in about 28 minutes (roughly RM55 one-way, cheaper booked online), with an extra few minutes if you're starting from klia2. The KLIA Transit runs the same route with a few extra stops and is a bit slower but similarly priced. From KL Sentral you can connect onward by LRT, monorail or taxi to areas like KLCC/Petronas Towers or Bukit Bintang. A Grab (ride-hailing) or airport taxi into the city takes roughly 45–60 minutes depending on traffic and time of day, and typically costs RM70–100 — worth it if you're traveling with a group or heavy luggage, since fares are split and there's no train transfer involved.

Practical tips

Buy a local SIM or eSIM at the arrivals hall — Malaysia's mobile data is cheap and there are no content restrictions, unlike some neighboring countries. If your flight lands at klia2 and you're catching an onward flight from KLIA (or vice versa), budget at least an hour just for the inter-terminal transfer plus security, since it's genuinely a different building. Grab is the dominant ride-hailing app and usually cheaper and more transparent than a hailed taxi; both operate from clearly marked ranks outside arrivals. Finally, Malaysia is warm and humid year-round, so dress light for the walk between the gate and the train or taxi rank — parts of the terminal-to-transport route are outdoors or semi-outdoors.

Connecte-toi uniquement à ces noms de réseau exacts — les faux hotspots dans les aéroports sont une arnaque de phishing courante.

Bon à savoir

  • Connect to "FREE_WIFI@KLIA" at Terminal 1, open a browser and tap "Click to surf" — no email, phone or ID needed for the free tier.
  • Free sessions run in blocks (about 3 hours); once it times out, just disconnect and reconnect to start a new session.
  • klia2 (Terminal 2, used by AirAsia and other low-cost carriers) has its own free Wi-Fi plus a paid MYR 8 / 24-hour option if you need something faster or longer for a whole layover.
  • Coverage extends across both terminals, gates and connecting walkways, so signal isn't limited to a few lounges.
