Dubai Airport (DXB): A Traveler's Guide

Cet article n'est pas encore disponible dans ton langue, il est donc affiché en anglais. Nous travaillons à le traduire prochainement.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is one of the world's great connecting hubs, especially for anyone flying between Europe/the Americas and Asia/Australia on Emirates or flydubai. Even a short layover here can feel like a mini-destination, with expansive duty-free and lounges - but the airport is spread across three quite separate terminals, so knowing where you are matters.

Terminal layout

Terminal 1 serves the D Gates and a broad mix of international carriers. Terminal 2 handles the F Gates, largely regional and flydubai traffic. Terminal 3 - Emirates' dedicated home - is the largest, split into A, B and C Gates; B and C are walkable from each other, while A Gates require a short train ride. If you're connecting between terminals (say Emirates to a Terminal 1 partner airline), you'll need the free inter-terminal shuttle bus, so check your boarding pass for the terminal, not just the gate.

Immigration, customs and security

Many nationalities get visa-on-arrival or visa-free entry, and UAE and GCC nationals, along with registered frequent travelers, can use Smart Gates for near-instant passport control; everyone else queues for a staffed desk, which can take anywhere from a few minutes to over half an hour at peak times. Customs uses a straightforward green (nothing to declare) and red (something to declare) channel system - note that alcohol import allowances and cash-declaration thresholds are stricter than many travelers expect, so check current limits before you land if you're carrying either.

Getting into the city

The Dubai Metro Red Line runs directly from Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 stations into the city, reaching the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station in Downtown Dubai in roughly 30-40 minutes for around AED 10 (including the airport station surcharge) on a Nol card - by far the best value option and immune to road traffic. Taxis are plentiful and metered, taking about 20-30 minutes to Downtown Dubai for roughly AED 60-100 depending on traffic and exact destination.

Practical tips

The Metro doesn't run 24/7 - it typically starts around 5am and stops shortly after midnight (a bit later on weekend nights) - so a very early or late arrival may force you onto a taxi regardless of budget. And a UAE-wide quirk worth knowing before you land: VoIP voice/video calls through apps like WhatsApp and Skype are restricted on all networks, airport Wi-Fi included, so plan to use a local SIM's calling minutes or a workaround if you need to make calls on arrival.

Noms de réseau officiels

  • DXB Free WiFiOfficial network across all DXB terminals, including transit/airside areas.

Connecte-toi uniquement à ces noms de réseau exacts — les faux hotspots dans les aéroports sont une arnaque de phishing courante.

Bon à savoir

  • Select "DXB Free WiFi", open a browser, and tap "Get Online Now" on the landing page — no account, phone number or passport details are needed.
  • There is no published time limit; the connection is designed to last for your full time at the airport, including transit.
  • Dubai Airports has marketed this as one of the fastest free airport Wi-Fi services, with speeds historically advertised up to 100 Mbps.
  • Voice/video calling apps (WhatsApp, Skype, FaceTime-style VoIP) are restricted UAE-wide by telecom regulation, so calls may not go through even on fast Wi-Fi — this applies on any UAE network, not just the airport's.
  • For anything sensitive like banking, use a VPN or your own mobile data as a precaution on this open network.
