London Stansted lies northeast of the city in Essex and is the UK's main low-cost gateway. It is the largest base for Ryanair and is dominated by budget short-haul flights across Europe, making it one of the busiest airports in the country by passenger numbers despite its no-frills character.
Everything runs through a single terminal, designed by architect Norman Foster, with a satellite pier system reached by a shuttle transit. Because it is geared to point-to-point leisure travel, queues at security and boarding can build quickly at peak times, so arrive early. The terminal has a solid range of shops and eateries, plus a pay-in lounge.
