Bevor du packst

US citizens don't need a visa for this trip, but they do need an FMM tourist card (free online or on arrival) and a passport valid 6+ months. Book the parade viewing spot early — Paseo de la Reforma and the Centro Histórico close to traffic from morning to evening, and hotels near the Zócalo sell out weeks ahead.

Early November is Mexico City's dry season sweet spot: sunny, mild afternoons around 20°C, chilly mornings near 9°C, and only occasional light rain. Pack layers — a light jacket for the early parade queue, short sleeves for the afternoon sun.

Regeln am Einlass

Was am Einlass erlaubt ist

Die praktischen, leicht übersehenen Regeln, die entscheiden, was du wirklich mitnehmen kannst.

No visa needed, but the FMM tourist card is mandatory

US, EU, UK, Canadian and most Latin American passport holders can enter visa-free for tourism (up to 180 days), but everyone must carry a completed FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple) — fill it out online before you fly or get it on arrival, and keep the stamped copy until you leave. Passport must be valid 6+ months past arrival.

Pack layers, not a big coat

Mornings near the Zócalo can feel close to 9°C while afternoons warm past 20°C in direct sun — a packable jacket, a light scarf and comfortable closed shoes for hours of standing beat one heavy coat.

Small bag only for the parade route

Paseo de la Reforma and the Centro Histórico close to traffic for most of the day and get packed shoulder-to-shoulder for the Gran Desfile — bring a small crossbody bag, cash for street vendors, a portable charger, and skip anything you're not prepared to carry for hours.

Cash for ofrendas, marigolds and street food

Street stalls selling pan de muerto, marigold (cempasúchil) flowers, face-painting and calavera souvenirs are largely cash-only during the festival rush — carry small-denomination pesos rather than relying on cards.

The main international airport and the closest to the centre — 12 km, but 30–60 minutes by road depending on traffic. Use the authorised taxi desks or a ride-hail pickup point rather than a tout in arrivals.

The newer airport north of the city, where several Volaris and Viva routes moved. Fares are often lower, but the transfer is 50 km — budget 60–90 minutes by road, or take the Buenavista suburban train link.

West of the capital and handy for Santa Fe or Polanco, less so for the historic centre. Direct coaches run to Terminal Poniente and Santa Fe in roughly 60–90 minutes depending on the pass over Las Cruces.
