Good to know
- Portugal is in the Schengen Area: short stays are limited to 90 days in any 180-day period.
- Nationals of countries listed in Annex I of EU Regulation 2018/1806 (e.g. Guyana) need a short-stay Schengen visa; Annex II nationals are exempt.
- Apply between 6 months and 15 days before travel: online via the E-Visa portal, at a Portuguese consulate, or — where Portugal has no consulate — at the consular representation of an EU country with jurisdiction, or via authorised external service providers.
- Means of subsistence for Portugal: 75 € per entry plus 40 € per day of stay, unless a statement of responsibility from a resident is presented.
- Supporting documents include a return ticket, proof of accommodation, travel medical insurance and a passport valid for more than 3 months after the planned exit date.
- The visa fee is non-refundable and payment does not guarantee the visa; the consulate may require an interview (within two weeks).
Portugal has been a Schengen member since 1995: no passport checks at internal borders, one 90/180-day allowance for visitors.
