Good to know

  • Norway is part of the Schengen area. Some travellers can visit without a visa, but most people from countries outside the EU/EEA must apply for a visitor's (Schengen) visa.
  • A Schengen visitor visa is for a short stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period; the exact period you are granted depends on your application.
  • Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality — use UDI's official checker (select your citizenship) to see the requirements and how to apply.
  • Applications are submitted through a Norwegian mission (embassy/consulate) or an authorised external visa application centre; the visa fee follows the applicable UDI price list (not shown on this page).
  • Visa-exempt non-EU visitors will additionally need an EU ETIAS travel authorisation once the EES/ETIAS system enters into operation (expected from late 2026).
Part of the Schengen area

Norway has been a Schengen member since 2001: no passport checks at internal borders, one 90/180-day allowance for visitors.
