About Geneva Airport (GVA)
Geneva Airport is Switzerland's second-busiest, handling 17.9 million passengers in 2025 across 149 direct destinations, and it is easyJet's largest base outside the UK — the orange airline accounts for nearly half of all traffic, with SWISS a distant second. Its great luxury is location: the single terminal sits just 4 km from the city centre, with the runway hugging the French border.
One quirk is worth knowing: the French sector (Secteur France) lets passengers arrive from or depart to France without formally entering Switzerland — check which sector your pickup or bus uses. In winter the airport becomes one of Europe's main ski gateways; the small Terminal 2 opens only for peak-season charters, and Saturdays get very busy. Note for older guidebooks: the famous free 80-minute public transport ticket was discontinued in 2022 — though Geneva hotels still give overnight guests a free city transport card.
Getting into town is almost trivial: the SBB rail station is directly under the terminal, and trains reach Genève-Cornavin in 7 minutes, up to seven times an hour. A unireso zone 10 ticket costs CHF 3 and covers train, tram, bus and even the Mouettes lake boats for an hour; machines are in the baggage hall. TPG buses do the run in about 20 minutes on the same ticket, while a metered taxi to the centre costs roughly CHF 35–50.
